This symbol is an internationally recognised symbol for peace - but was originally designed for the British nuclear disarmament movement.
Gerald Holtom created the symbol - he was a professional designer in 1958 for the Direct Action Committe Against Nuclear War and was later hired by the campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and many times since then due to his success in the industry.
From then until now this symbol has stood beside anyone with a simple wish for change - although has grown immensely from representing change within the Nuclear world to now symbolising peace within our world as a whole.
