March Revolution 1848

Symbols can change their meaning over time including symbols that have had a strong or powerful meaning.

The German flag was once the face of the March Revolution of 1848. The black-red-gold tricolour first appeared in the 19th century and later was given greater recognition when it symbolised the March Revoloution.
The Frankfurt Parliament of 1848 proposed this tricolour to be the flag for a united German state. This was taken into great concideration and was eventually adopted as the national flag of Germany

The short-lived Frankfurt Parliament of 1848–1850 proposed the tricolour as a flag for a united and democratic German state. With the formation of the Weimar Republic after World War I, the tricolour was adopted as the national flag of Germany.
